They say, “I Will Not Go Back Quietly to the 1950s”.
They say, “I’m 17 – Fear Me!”.
We saw the light of the Great Refusal, epitomized by protestors at the global Women’s March in the past few days impelled Trump’s inauguration as a result of a polarizing election.
As a female creative, in light of many threatened values on both a personal and professional level (a potential removal of several national art-humanities funding entities is under discussion among Trump’s team), slogans and acts like those felt resonant.
Our collective resistance, another drastically reduced but efficient term for the Great Refusal, is heartening. Without due knowledge of Trump’s blueprint for the four years to come, I’m not going to assume the worst but stay alert.
A note to myself: when put under greater challenges, we more of often than not shine brighter.
