    Primed for Age

    March 3, 2018

“The society is incredibly ageist”, complains photographer Steven Meisel, for one.

I was reading an interview article with stylist Suzanne Koller by Mark Holgate and couldn’t help but think: for all the new generation of young photographers who work strictly with film which is a naturally erroneous and accidental form, and the classic models who are now likely over forty, and the mushrooming original avant-garde journalistic pro-realism culture/fashion/art journals out there, like the author pointed out, one thing they – and we – love about today’s fresh waves of fashion images is their “permission to be able to age”.

While it may appear a funny rhetoric at first sight, it is not. While it’s our instinct to be drawn to youth, our acceptance and respect for age needs cultivation.

I’m pointing it out here now because besides the fact that fashion especially is a predisposed trade, at the height of the fashion month as we’re less defensive toward individuality and fresh thoughts, this may be a prime time for the conversation. Thoughts?

First of all, yor outfit is really inspiring. I like the easy way you put different prints together.
Regarding to age in fashion, it is true that we can see more women over 40, and that’s really fresh. I follow some bloggers over 50 years, and they are as stylish as anyone else. So for me, it’s inspiring!
