This is a humble plaid galore, as well as a break from the glamorous SS 19 Paris Haute Couture week where bold colors, sequins, embroideries, and tulles are all done in extraordinary cuts and stunning volumes. Being, precisely, more extravagant than innovative, couture shows have long become more of a campaign to promote the brand’s core values and their art directions for the upcoming season. So while everything put on a couture show is magnified and glorified, there are plenty of nuances to watch for amongst them. For instance, big volumes are more luxurious at Valentino while in contrast, soft and bouncy tulle structures at Giambattista Valli are dreamier; and speaking of frothy tulles, they are carried out in a whole different direction at Viktor & Rolf’s.
That being said, I’m surely more excited about the upcoming fashion month compared to the couture shows. Before a new round of hustle and bustle kicks in in town in just over a week, I’m here wrapped in my easy winter-essentials. One thing to be certain is that these plaids, such as this tartan new-age kilt, the plaid raw-hem wool skirt, and the checkered shearling coat, each would make it a cinch to mix-and-match with the much anticipated new season.
