It’s like when you fail on dieting, you binge even harder. Vicious cycles die hard. And here’s more bad news – virtuous circles can die quick, if sans haute maintenance. That’s probably truer than ever in today’s ever-changing consumer market as well as our creative environment.
How depressing that is, I sometimes think.
That said, a second thought usually reverts the logic. The despair really is a mere reflection of relapsing into an intuitive state of fear of normal fluctuations. Fear isn’t always the villain; it inspires thoughts, assessments, ideas, and growth. Cliché but totally cool.
My husband works in investment. One of the convos we often exchange after work is how investors could miss the mark by getting on a daily emotional rollercoaster every time the numbers budge.
It’s the long-term trends that count.
I still think that super cynical styles are also likely ephemeral. And that true elegance overcomes trials and errors and witnesses normal market fluctuations. And that most creative milestones are marked with lasting passion and true joy.
So despite the bulging pant marks across my belly, I appreciate that you guys actually let me be me and approve (although you probably just remained quiet when you disapprove which I appreciate all the same). x
