On A Crisp Clean White Shirt

    August 14, 2016

    I’m wearing:

Everybody needs a crisp white shirt.

Preachings starting with everybody needs risks being sketchy – more often than not, its grandeur makes the statement fall short.

But perhaps not this time. And I’m going to add this at my own risk: ladies, we cannot have too many.

A perfectly pressed cotton poplin shirt is like Paganini’s Caprice No 24 – decorate it the way we want and we cannot go wrong. It’s simple like that.

The ones I own come in different forms – plain fitted ones, slightly garnished ones (think bibs and double cuffs), long torso ones, oversized ones like this THE SEPT Harley shirt I’m wearing, and more.

When it comes to the fit, an oversized tailoring nails certain undone fascination. For a garment structured like a poplin shirt, I’d consider the relaxed fit a healthy and critical dose of contrast.

This cotton shirt, in particular, comes in like a perfectly clean slate – no frill no fuss. Such drastically minimalist approach makes it an easy transition from work to after work drinks to a Sunday brunch to beaches. On a side note, I cannot think of a more chic thing to wear a boyfriend shirt as a cover-up on beach to stand out amid countless sheer, flowy, peasant-blouse-esque tunics. Your thoughts?

P.S. In case you’re wondering, these pants are silk track slacks. Must haves for slouchy minimalists out there.
