    NYFW Sep 2018 Highlights

    September 20, 2018

Along with this outfit are a few lights from my past NYFW. Read on for my notes for each show below.

    Theory SS19 Presentation

Despite the déjà-vu-at-The-Row inkling, Theory’s Spring 2019 line was indeed a pleasantly surprising leap from its previous corporate association. Set in a gallery in Chelsea filled with golden faux sunlight and some vintage TV screens playing videos of Mediterranean-esque natural scenes, the presentation showcased a collection of relaxed tailoring and minimal shapes, all of which manifested in luxe fabrics. With details like subtle yet inventive volumes, intricate cutouts and nips, and elegantly demure sheen, the new Theory revealed a drastically elevated façade. Next thing in line for me is to try them on as soon as they launch in store.

In the heart of Chinatown in Manhattan, Sandy Liang celebrates her latest collection in one of the town’s most popular Chinese eateries – an act perfectly consistent with her longstanding bond with her ethnical roots. Showcased by a mix of models and Liang’s own family and friends, the SS19 collection is as luxe and sweet as one would expect but beyond. Leopard prints and casual-elegant accessories complemented the pastel-hued, girly-detailed garments. Her stress on wearablity is evident in her extensive use of cozy materials and easy footwear. This was definitely a highlight of my fashion week.

    Nanushka SS19 Presentation

Another fashion week favorite of mine was Nanushka’s SS19 collection. Filled with sumptuous satin and baby soft vegan leather pieces, Nanushka kept the heritage alive with its signature easy silhouettes and retro, intricate prints. The knotted fabric sandals, the airy wide-leg pants, and all the vegan leather pieces are my top picks. And the fuchsia satin would certainly be a wardrobe hero since the bright hue will lead the trend for the upcoming warm days.

Boasting fresh florals and glamorous silk pieces, the New-Zealand designer’s first runway show was certainly more than just the clothing. Casting all Asian models, Li’s runway debut advocate diversity in fashion. Who knew that after decades of promotion, the same old topic still comes across fresh? Li’s concept alone deserves a front row at the hustling fashion month.

Founded by young designer Zac Zeng merely in 2017, the fresh-faced Chinese streetwear label boasts some confident affection for free movement and futuristic tailoring. Enhanced with subtle references to some sweet, retro sensibility in contract with forward eye makeups, the menswear turned out an even stronger collection in my view. The near-flashy athlesuire line pitches a unique aesthetical voice of China’s post-90s generation. That in itself is a point worth seeing.
