Nothing fuels me for fall like a quick summer-end getaway. Luckily for us, Martha’s Vineyard is just a swift ride away.
A quick heads-up before I go into details: if you’d like to plan a trip to either Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket for a weekend in summer, get your ferry tickets when they came out the first day of summer. Weekend tickets sold out that same day. I know, crazy, isn’t it.

This time we mostly stayed in Oak Bluffs. The little island is very walkable. Numerous food and gift shops line up the Circuit Avenue and side alleys, just the way I want my islands to be.

The absolutely not-to-be-missed is the Apple Fritter from the legendary Back Door Donuts. The donut shop gained its popularity among insiders when bakers fried their donuts in the night and locals would just knock on the back door of the Bakery and get fresh-out-of-oven treats.
While the night tradition remains – today you can still go line up at the parking lot next to the Reliable Market after dark till midnight to get your late-night snack fix, another easier option is the Martha’s Vineyard Gourmet Café & Bakery. We got ours from the latter.
As for the taste, well, where do I begin? The short answer is, it was hands down the best donut I’ve ever had. And know that I’m a self-proclaimed foodie. My husband doesn’t even have a sweet-tooth and he wolfed down a bigger half as I clicked the shutter away.

My personal favorite spot for fun is the Wesleyan Grove campground. The cottages inside this National Historic Landmark District are literally life-size dollhouses. And you can rent one and call it your vacation home during your stay. I’m definitely entertaining the idea for our next trip.

If you’re an animal lover, the Island Alpaca Company of Martha’s Vineyard is another fantastic stop. The ranch itself is beautiful in summer light. I have this uncontainable thing for alpacas – I think they’re beyond adorbs. And this farm is perfect for my needs: visitors are allowed really get close to them. These mellow little creatures grow heavenly fur as soft and fluffy as cloud.

The coastline and the deep deck into the water along the Seaview Avenue offers a tranquil sight especially around the dusk.

Stroll to the Lookout Tavern located on one end of the road for a chill time with fresh seafood and an unbeatable view. We ordered their Raw Bar Sampler twice (yes, twice), the clam chowder, the mussels, and the lobster roll. Needless to say, the oysters and shrimp cocktail from the raw bar were my favorites of the night. The bun that sandwiched the lobster meat was dry and tough – we only picked and ate the filling.
The crochet dress I’m wearing fit the vacation vibes – I wore it the way it is since layering was impossible for the heat and humidity that day. But try layering it over your favorite fall pants for some full-on cosmo-boho air.
The denim short jumpsuit from Theory was oldie but goodie. I adore the big pockets on the relaxed shorts and its dark indigo hue.
The sunnies I’m wearing are my second swap from Ditto’s Endless Eyewear Program. Read my candid review and find out more about the program from my previous post here. To grow their collection, the latest news is they just raised the price from $19 to $24/mo. I honestly still think it’s a good deal. But either way, you can try it free for the 1st month with my code ZHOURS.
