Hubby and I were sitting at Alta, a hip Spanish tapas place in East Village, on the first day of 2017, waiting for our orders to be served. There was nothing else to do – we ordered, I already Snapchatted the interior, responded to a friend’s text message, and refreshed emails.
We were not supposed to work. Hubby and I agreed that we both took a few days off in the holidays with mere exceptions of quick email and social handlings.
But that moment right there, I caught myself feeling a bit anxious about the circumstance. I mean, it’s really nothing peculiar. I bet many of you have found a blank calendar unsettling at times.
“What are you thinking?” I asked the hubby.
“Nothing. I’m enjoying the moment”.
Good for him.
My husband practices meditation. I have learned some gist along the way and wish I could have disciplined myself into commitment so instead of envying his composure, I’d have popped my own bubble to chill.
But seriously, staying present, deeper self-knowledge, and inspired creativity all sound tempting. I’d like that.
2016 marked more major events in our lives than many earlier ones: hubby was offered an exciting new job which incurred our permanent move from Boston to New York; we got our first dog, Butter the frenchie; I officially started and managed a full-time blogging job since (phew); but above all, I came to an age when I, hopefully, progressed into piecing my career, family, surroundings, goals and purposes into a more holistic perspective.
The last point, a.k.a. maturing, has been an inspiring experience. So above all the petty plans I listed for the New Year that I may or may not succeed at executing, I hope that in 2017, I will go deeper into the trajectory of cultivating a clearer, more focused mind for self-growth and -knowledge.
May your New Year be filled with actions and accomplishments.

You write so well and gorgeous captures as always. Mindfulness can be such a hard thing to practice. I start yoga teacher training this coming weekend, hoping it helps me to be more in the present , which was my resolution for last year:)
Best of luck to you, and congrats on an amazing year!
This is my first time visiting your blog and I’m very pleased I’m here.
“May your New Year be filled with actions and accomplishments.” I like that a lot – “actions and accomplishments.”
I love your grey day photos.
And I especially love the last photo, all the things in the bathtub. It’s so serious looking but it cracked me up.
I’ll be back 🙂
