The striking silhouette and rich details on these denim-leather-chaps bottoms are works of the brainy winner of the H&M Design Award winner 2016, Hannah Jinkins. I’d like to think that the Royal College of Art, London, graduate presented a great commercial potential with creative elements such as oversized shapes, androgynous vibes, and rich, focused details that feel rustic, everyday, yet at the same time well thought out. It’s the good ol’ effortless cool that she actually nailed.
Now here comes the thorny part: I wish these were as practically flattering as visually so. The stiff and chunky denim front flaps constantly wanted to bulge away from my belly and the leather chap could weigh a tad less.
It’s not entirely a surprise, is it? Seamless executions – especially for commercial purposes – have been an old battle line that even seasoned fashion designers have to fight with from time to time.
If any of you were curious about the line, my take based on my limtied experience with these denims is it’s positively worth a fitting. If they turn out to sit well with your figure, congratulations – you’ve nailed the most haute-couture piece per cost.
