    Burrowed But Better

    March 14, 2019

I was at the Prada store at Soho before the past Valentine’s Day to pick up a gift the hubby. My girlfriend who went with me noted how brilliant the brand’s latest men’s collection is.

“You could wear this”, she pointed to a lightweight khaki coat as she spoke.

“It’s cool but it’s for men”, I glanced at it, shrugged, and walked passed by without giving it another thought.

“But you wear men’s stuff”, she insisted.

I then looked myself in the mirror and saw these giant football shoulders and a more-than-generously-cut silhouette of the big Balenciaga coat I was in. And I wondered how I had managed to stay so oblivious to the obvious.

I returned home and went straight to my husband’s wardrobe, starting to scout my candidates there. Both coats shown here are the immediate results. The classic colors and cuts well complement my own statement pieces. Besides, the oversized fit wasn’t overly dramatic – though granted, there is a mere 5-inch difference between the two of us. Lucky me.

But the point is, the success in this experiment points to a much larger pool than just our male partners’ (if any) wardrobes. I now regularly browse men’s collections and often ended up finding a host of fresh possibilities. Turns out that some of corresponding pieces in men’s line – for instant, same print or color as in women’s -are less pricier, more available in smaller sizes both in regular and sales periods, cut in simpler silhouettes, and are just overall cooler.

I have a few more looks with men’s pieces to share. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, start digging.
