Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental in Boston is Chef Daniel Boulud’s casual eatery in town. Being a brunch enthusiastic, I admire how the French-cuisine-inspired American brunch menu offers a refreshing twist to the classic American cookery.
The ambiance is French-bistro-style casual chic with an open bar area that boasts an impressive selection of wines. The food was beautifully plated to showcase its French heritage.
The absolute must-haves are the pictured chardonnay, the desserts, and the DB Smoked Salmon.
The chardonnay is especially created for Chef Daniel Boulud from carefully selected grape seeds that were imported from France and then grown and harvested in California for monsieur Boulud’s exclusive uses. Though I don’t have extensive experience in alcoholic drinks, this particular kind is easily one of my favorites ever.
The DB Smoked Salmon is french style scrambled eggs wrapped in smoked salmon pieces. The textures are delicate and the flavors are fresh and seamlessly balanced.
Now as a dessert aficionado and self-proclaimed chocoholic, Bar Boulud’s freshly baked Madeleine and its Dark Chocholate Coupe alone are well worth the trip. Wolfing down the Madeleines is like digging into warm and fluffy cloud; and the chocolate dessert layers textures of silky smooth, to velvety and dense, to crispy and crunchy with precisely controlled amount of sweetness.
It wont’ be long before we head back to try out their dinner menu and for sure, another round of dessert fête.
