So what’s new in the past 2 weeks? Juxtaposing the stress-test-like final clearance sales was the fall 2018 couture week. From a further 20% reduction on some deeply discounted designer pieces (gasps! if they happen to have your sizes), to fabulous details at Fendi and Valentino and inspiring conceptual manipulations at for instance, Maison Margiela, the demand for compartmentalized thinking and multi-tasking was real.
So when my baby pup’s scalpel-sharp circadian clock wakes him and begs our attention at 4AM everyday, I choose to pet him instead of ignoring the whining to spare myself yet another resolve test. Now as I uncontrollably yawn as I type this, I started to believe why sleep deprivation could terminate it all and understand how there is only that much coffee could do.
But the hustle and bustle usually also marks the climax of a business. While a couture show may actually serve a better publicity than sales purpose, it offers constructive insights and a legit opportunity to actually prioritize, in place of commerciality, creativity. In that sense, a couture show is a commercial act that’s likely closest to art in fashion. It was worth the yawns.
