Ever since we moved from Los Angeles to Boston, hubs and I have been searching for an authentic Mexican place. But being a fastidious foodie – my friends have learned to always leave the dining decisions to me, I wasn’t quite impressed with the Mexican places we visited in the city.
When Besito Mexican extended a kind invite, I checked out their menu and food photos online and decided to give it a try. And I’m glad I did.
The thing I tend to look for at a Mexican restaurant is freshness. First thing first, the guac and the chips. The made-tableside guac at Besito is chunky yet creamy, and seasoned just right. With warm, crispy chips, our lunch at Besito was off to a great start.
We were served with Flautas de Pollo (chicken tacos) and Panquesito de Jaiba (crab cake) as appetizers. Both dishes were tasty. The crab cake was my favorite dish of the day. Party because I’m a seafood fanatic. Partly because the dish was perfectly balanced – all ingredients were distinctive but in balance in flavors, and nothing overpowered the fresh crab.
For the entrees, we were served the Iron Skillet Pollo (grilled chicken) Taco, Enchiladas Mixtas (enchilada with beef and chicken), and Budin deMariscos (a tortilla pie of shrimp and crab). My favorite goes to the tortilla pie. Its poblano cream sauce and the cheese-crusted tortillas are beautiful complements to the succulent seafood stuffed in between.
Food portions are decent – I’d actually split with hubby next time we go, just so we could sample more varieties without stuffing ourselves.
And just as we didn’t think we had room for another bite – thanks to their incredible hospitality, there came the desserts. We were offered the pumpkin flan and the chocolate sponge cake. If you know me, you know there’s not a chance for me to leave out the chocolate.
I fear any dessert that is overly sweet. Not with those two at Besito. I wasn’t expecting their desserts to be so addictive that we actually finished the cake on the spot. Both desserts were such delightful surprises – the cake was dense and decadent; the airy whipped cream was a lovely contrast. We took the flan home – it turned out to be wonderfully creamy and rich.
Like we didn’t expect to finish the chocolate cake, I didn’t expect to write such a lengthy review. But everything above was heartfelt. Please feel free to leave questions in comments. And check out their website for locations. I know I’m going back soon.
Happy Friday, loves!
xx,
D
