It’s warm and sunny outside – perhaps a little too pleasant that the subject becomes overwhelmingly dominant in the sphere of style writings.
Sure, the obvious things I wanted to say about this dress is its season-perfect qualities: the pastel color, the airy fabric, the side slits, and all. I mean, what could look more springy than this dress?! But were those the things that got me in it in the first place? I’m afraid not.
I understand the need to look appropriate to (fill in the blank). We all have our own social decorum to fulfill. But I have reservations toward the idea of dressing up to the season. I know a line like “this look is perfect for the season/weather” appeared many times in my earlier writings. I still meant my words but I realized I never address my fundamental belief that comes before anything: we dress up to our own personalities.
I chose to wear this dress for its relaxed cut and slightly retro vibes. It’s for the same principle that I chose to cover up my torso with a boxy blazer. Other possible pairings I can think of include a denim jacket with sneakers or slides, or a linen shirt when left unbuttoned with flip-flops, just to name a few.
You may pick the dress up for its color. She got it for its deep open in the back. You may not even want a jacket over it. It should work as plain as that.
